Find Early Intervention

If you believe that your child may be showing signs of developmental delays, early intervention is crucial.

Here's How:

  1. Seek an assessment for developmental delays by your physician.
  2. Have your physician make a referral to an Early Intervention Program.
  3. Contact your local hospital to inquire about intervention programs.
  4. Contact your local school district for special ed. programs for toddlers.
  5. Contact local disability chapters, such as: The Arc, Easter Seals, or March of Dimes.
  6. Look for a Head Start program in your area.  
  7. Look for preschools that offer speech and therapy programs.
  8. Contact your local university, many universities have education programs.
  9. Contact your local Dept. of Children's Welfare, as they maintain listings of family resources.

Tips:

  1. Although infants are screened at birth, many delays may not be immediately apparent.
  2. If you suspect a problem, do not hesitate to seek the guidance of your physician.
